Probate and trust attorneys Nancy Shaw and Molly Girardi will speak virtually about “Get Your Life in Order” to the USC Trojan Affiliates on Thursday, March 4. The meeting will begin with a virtual social half hour at 6:30 p.m. followed by the program at 7 p.m.

Shaw and Girardi are mother and daughter attorneys specializing in probate and trust law in San Marino. Shaw, originally from Iowa, traveled west to Los Angeles in the 1970s to be a journalist. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Drake University in Des Moines and graduated from Southwestern Law School in 1977.

She has been practicing law for over 40 years, first as a civil litigator and then as a probate and estate attorney. Shaw has “seen it all” in the realm of trust and estates, has served countless clients, and has been involved with the administration of many notable estates, including those of Marlon Brando and Ray Charles.

She has been involved with several local professional and charitable organizations, serving over the years as president of the Foothill and Pasadena bar associations; president and chairman of the board of the Hear Center; president of the Pasadena Quarterbacks Club, and president and University Club board chairwoman. She also served as trustee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, was involved in a local chapter and national board of National Charity League and volunteered her services at the South Pasadena Senior Center for many years.

Raised in San Marino, Girardi often played secretary in her mother’s law office. She earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration from USC and worked in nonprofit fundraising following college. She followed in her mother’s footsteps, attending Southwestern Law School and earning her J.D. in 2010.

Girardi was originally a civil litigator, working on personal injury, wrongful death, and nationwide pharmaceutical lawsuits at a well-known LA-based law firm before transitioning from litigation and into trusts and estates work.

She has been involved with many local organizations, including the Junior League of Pasadena, Foothill Family Services, Arthritis Foundation, San Marino Chapter of the National Charity League and the Pasadena Bar Association.

Girardi serves on the board of directors of Linda Vista Children’s Center and is a board member and past president of the Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy Alumnae Association.

USC Trojan Affiliates, a women’s organization in the San Gabriel Valley, supports the University of Southern California and welcomes all interested women to attend its meetings and events.

This meeting will focus on new member recruitment and all women parents, alumni and friends of USC are encouraged to attend.  A woman does not need to be a graduate of USC to be a member of Trojan Affiliates. During normal times, the group meets five times a year at various homes and locations within the San Gabriel Valley and hosts additional social and cultural events while raising needed scholarship funds for USC students. It supports 10 students who attended San Gabriel Valley high schools.

USC Trojan Affiliates is in its fifth year of contributing money to its first scholarship endowment fund of $100,000, (now well over the initial funded amount) using these dollars to support its scholars.

Money is also raised from selling unique USC products, like jewelry, scarves, clothing, tablecloths, towels, aprons and handmade signs.

Members also volunteer at the Pasadena Showcase House to earn funds and participate in the USC Supper, USC Day of Service, USC Homecoming, Swim with Mike, San Marino Motor Classic, and other programs to support the university and its students. This year, a spring boutique virtual fundraiser will take place the week of March 21.
