LA-based Quartermaster band goes full-on old school Sunday at Coffee Gallery Backstage, performing updated pirate songs in smooth-sailing, three-part harmonies.
The blend of voices meshes seamlessly with the traditional instruments the group uses. Expect to hear rowdy songs of booze, sex at sea, vintage sea shanties and general drinking and carousing tunes — bawdy stuff about men at sea, delivered with a pirate’s swagger.
Quartermaster is headed by veteran, vintage music authority James Britton Hendricks, who plays bouzouki and English concertina. The rest of the crew consists of Daniel Rover Singer, Tom Ervin, Mike Fillman, Edward Chamourian, Michael Puente, Cal Smith and Michael Hruska.
Music starts at 2 p.m. Sunday at Coffee Gallery Backstage, 2029 N. Lake Ave., Altadena. Tickets are $20. Call (626) 798-6236 or visit coffeegallery.com.
