Former state Attorney General John Van de Kamp will speak Thursday, June 1, on how grassroots organizations can influence public policy at a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters Pasadena-Area.

Van de Kamp is expected to discuss his recent experience as chair of the Pasadena Task Force on Good Government.

The group recommended earlier this year that City Council members, once staunchly against implementing the voter-approved Taxpayer Protection Amendment, take action to strengthen the anti-corruption measure’s provisions.

Also known as Measure B, the Taxpayer Protection Amendment prohibits city officials from accepting campaign contributions or other gifts from those whom their decisions in office, such as approving construction projects or granting city contracts, have benefited.

A longtime Pasadena resident, Van de Kamp has served as Los Angeles County District Attorney and president of the State Bar of California.

He speaks at 1 p.m. at the Women’s City Club, 160 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena. Admission is $1. For more information, call (626) 798-0965.
