A performance by Carolyn Gaines and the Rhythm Kings Sunday at The Mixx in Pasadena serves as a release party for Gaines’ new CD, “Beware of My Dog.”

Gaines comes from a family of performers. She is the daughter of iconic guitarist and singer Roy Gaines, who worked with Billie Holliday and Diana Ross, and her uncle, saxophonist Grady Gaines, has likewise worked with Ross as well as Gladys Knight and Sam Cooke, among others.

Besides performing, Gaines also has a history of teaching children about the blues through her Blues Schools programs, and has written numerous articles about blues greats.

Sunday’s jam is open to all ages. Those interested in sitting in should simply bring their guitars and amps if desired. The sound system and drums are provided.
