Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich will take a bow Friday at Glendale’s Alex Theatre, where he will receive a community service award from the Los Angeles North Chapter of the Brigham Young University Alumni Association.

Though Antonovich actually graduated from Cal State LA, BYU decided to honor him for his work with foster children.

Over the last 20 years, Antonovich has been a champion for the county’s foster youth, working to promote adoption.

The former government and history teacher began his public service in 1969, two years after graduating from Pasadena Police Academy Reserve Officer School, and has been on the Board of Supervisors since 1980.

He lives in Glendale with his wife and two children.

Following the presentation, the Brigham Young University Ballroom Dance Co. will perform a show titled "Light up the Night," featuring a variety of dance styles.

The dance troupe is the current US National Formation Dance Champion, a title it has held perennially since 1982.
