Congress hears Schiff’s no-confidence call
By Justin Chapman 06/07/2007
Two days after Democratic Congressmen Adam Schiff of Pasadena and Arthur Davis of Alabama introduced a bill expressing no confidence in Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, support for the bill quickly skyrocketed, with a current total of 117 co-sponsors signing on.
Gonzales has been under pressure to resign from both Democrats and Republicans after evidence surfaced in congressional testimony that suggested Gonzales had a bigger role in the firings of US Attorneys than he originally claimed. “We would have preferred that such a resolution was not necessary and we would hope that the attorney general would step down before it is brought up for a vote,” Schiff said at a press conference announcing the introduction of his bill.
