The festival pays tribute to the creative teams that spawned the golden age of Warner Brothers cartoons, including directors Tex Avery, Robert Clampett, Friz Freleng, Chuck Jones and Robert McKimson, producer Leon Schlesinger, voice artist Mel Blanc and writer Michael Maltese. The event features cartoons by each of the directors, starting at 3 p.m. Tickets are $10 to $50.
The Society presents the opening night of the Robert Altman Series of Q&A Screenings, featuring a screening of Altman’s classic film “MASH,” followed by a live Q&A with scheduled guests Elliot Gould, Sally Kellerman, Bud Court and Altman family members sharing home movies and stories starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $19 general, $13.50 for seniors, students and children and $12.50 for Society members. The orchestra launches its 2014-2015 season with works by Beethoven, Saint-Saëns and a world premiere by Australian composer Cameron Patrick, commissioned by the orchestra. Jeffrey Kahane conducts and Juho Pohjonen is featured piano soloist. It starts at 8 p.m., repeating at 7 p.m. Sunday at UCLA’s Royce Hall. Tickets are $25 and up.
